Narnia CO : Cottage Brochure
Narnia CO, A Colorado Mountain Cottage
Location: Chalk Creek flows from the melting snows of the awesome peaks along the Continental Divide between Mt. Princeton (14,197') and Mt. Antero (14,269'). During the winter we share this wilderness with an abundance of wildlife. Narnia lies between a State Wildlife Preserve, dedicated to a large herd of Rocky Mt. Sheep, and national forest. Deer, elk, Rocky Mt. Goats, coyotes, raccoons, fox, rabbits and other critters are common. We have a multitude of birds. The cottage altitude is approximately 8500 feet.
Activities: During the summer or winter you can roast marshmallows around a campfire on the edge of Chalk Creek just behind our cottage. A small brook runs through the woods in front of our cottage; this nourishes many wildflowers. Fishing is available on our property (nearly 5 acres) and in nearby streams and lakes. There are numerous easy hikes to waterfalls and alpine lakes, and longer treks into wilderness areas. You may rent horses for trail rides or pack trips from nearby stables. Rafting through Brown's Canyon or through the magnificent Royal Gorge on the Arkansas River are thrilling adventures.
Mt. Bikes and ATVs can be rented at St. Elmo, a nearby ghost town. There are also numerous historic sites of interest in the high country, including St. Elmo, Hancock and the Alpine Tunnel across the continental divide. We are four miles from Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and Spa, which is open year round. This is a favorite stop after winter recreation. These activities include countless cross-country ski trails, snow mobile rentals for many trails into Tincup and Hancock Basins and downhill skiing at Monarch or Cooper Hill (approximately 45 min.) Snowshoeing or quiet walking through the winter majesty is a must, followed by hot tea by the crackling fire.
Accommodations: This is our 'family' cottage that we rent when not using it. It sits on nearly 5 acres. The main floor, about 1000-sq. ft., has 2 bedrooms with a queen bed and a double bed respectively. The large living room provides a comfortable place to gather in front of the fireplace. The living room sofa converts into a queen bed. There is a large bathroom with bathtub. The kitchen has recently been remodeled and includes an electric range & stove, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. It is also furnished with dishes, utensils, pots and pans. A TV with VCR and a stereo are also available. We have pillows and blankets, but ask that you provide your own linens and towels. No smoking or pets please.
